The Methodological Framework of Empirical Research on Translation Process in the West

Abstract: The construction of methodology is of great significance to the development of a discipline. In the past thirty years, the empirical research on translation process has been widely applied in the west. Triangulation becomes a major methodology with introspection as the chief supplemented with some others, thus the black box in a translator’s mind is gradually being opened. This paper explores the advantages and disadvantages of four types of introspective method as well as six other supplementary methods, with a view to mapping out the introspectionbased methodology for the empirical research on translation process.
