Organized Scientific Research in Universities: Core Elements and Effective Models

Abstract: Facing the significant opportunities and challenges of a new round of technological revolution and industrial transformation, the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at the core have put forward clear requirements for accelerating scientific and technological innovation. In recent years, Chinese universities have constantly innovated the mechanism of the whole scientific research chain focused on the national strategies, and actively carried out organized scientific research. Based on a combination of research review, case studies and in-depth research, this study analyzed the measures and distinctive work for the development of organized scientific research in high-level research universities. It has been confirmed that the four core elements of organized scientific research in universities are research tasks, build platforms, assemble teams, and provide funding. Various effective models for universities to carry out organized scientific research have been summarized, including improving the management function structure, supporting the construction of national laboratories, cultivating and optimizing innovation platforms, facilitating substantial interdisciplinary collaboration, and enhancing the ability to originate innovations.
