Abstract: Fitzgeralds novels are often used as writing samples and models of narrative techniques for novel researchers. Haruki Murakami set about his writing career by accepting and imitating the narrative skills in Fitzgeralds novels. Comparing such aspects as narrative angle, narrative structure and narrative language between Haruki Murakami and Fitzgerald, weve found some similarities in their mastering and applying narrative techniques, which are worthy of our study. In addition, in the process of study and imitation, Haruki Murakami blended the narrative characteristics of traditional Japanese literature with the narrative techniques of Western literature, which not only reveals the narrative strategies of Western literature but also displays the extremely strong Eastern tastes.

Key words: Haruki Murakami, Fitzgerald, narrative strategy, narrative angle
