摘要: 刘易斯·芒福德作为媒介环境学的先驱和奠基人对机器艺术进行了深刻的批判,指出机器艺术与人的艺术之间存在着深刻的矛盾:机器艺术是对艺术家的贬低;导致了人的创造性、个性损害,培养了新一代“艺术消费者”,并探讨了机器艺术兴起背后的经济和民主要求。芒福德对机器艺术的分析揭示了机器艺术的两难困境:机器艺术的产生和兴起是现代化进程不可避免的后果,导致了艺术的平庸和无趣,也在一定程度上解放了艺术。

Abstract: As the pioneer and founder of media ecology, Lewis Mumford criticized machine art profoundly, and pointed out that there exists a deep contradiction between machine art and human art—machine art depreciates human artists, damages the creativity and individuality of human beings, and creates so called “art consumers” of new generation. Moreover, Mumford explored the economic and democratic requirements behind machine art. By analyzing machine art, he revealed the dilemma of machine art—the emergence and development of machine art is an inevitable consequence of modernization, which on one hand leads to the mediocrity and boredom of art and on the other hand liberates art to some extent.
