Abstract: University as an organization has the duality of being both academic and administrative. It is true that the two attributes conflict with each other in terms of fundamental values; however, that they actually have their rationality, limitations and coexistence is an objective reality. Those universities pursue their academic value by following academic logic and meanwhile show their respect for administration and efficiency is a critical issue. The theory of fieldhabitus holds that the institutional field shapes its internal habitus, and the habitus in turn has a reconstructing power over the field. After the scientificity is established, the academic spirit, together with the administrative ideology, needs to set up their fields which provide the soil for the shaping of habitus. In this way the field and the habitus can fit in with each other and the universitys organizational duality is thus expected to be reconciled.

Key words: fieldhabitus, university institution, academic attribute, administrative attribute
