Abstract:

The rapid development of China's economy has also brought serious environmental pollution problems. As the pillar of economic decentralization, financial decentralization is often regarded as a supplement to fiscal decentralization and neglected. It is of great practical significance to explore the relationship between financial decentralization and environmental pollution. By constructing an endogenous growth model that includes financial decentralization factors and environmental factors and conducting a theoretical analysis of the relationship between financial decentralization and environmental pollution, it is found that the impact of financial decentralization on environmental pollution presents a nonlinear relationship. Using the panel data from 30 provinces for the empirical research, and introducing such control variables as openness level, urbanization rate, industrial structure, and the intersection of fiscal decentralization and financial decentralization, the research finds that the impact of financial decentralization on environmental pollution in China presents a positive U-shaped relationship.

Key words: financial decentralization, environmental pollution, fiscal decentralization
