Implicatures of Rhetorical Philosophy in Wittgensteins “Language Game”

Abstract: “Language game” is the core of Wittgensteins later philosophy. Falling back upon everyday language to give classic explanations for language meaning, he not only overthrows the traditional metaphysical views of language philosophy, but also provides a theoretical foundation for the philosophization of rhetoric. Wittgensteins elaboration on meaning in contexts, purposes and rules of language, forms of life in “language game” embodies and motivates the development of contemporary rhetoric. Based on an analysis of three features in “language game”, this paper expounds the philosophy of rhetoric in “language game” in terms of epistemology, ontology and methodology.
