Abstract: To control the coiling temperature of the hot-rolled strip more accurately, the nonlinearity and strong coupling features of the cooling process were taken into account so as to develop a mathematical model for the temperature control in the cooling process after strip's hot rolling with the nonlinear characteristics involved. Then, the strategy of coiling temperature setting was investigated in relation to the cooling process. A system software was therefore developed on the basis of the model and the effect of the model was verified via in-situ applications. It was found that the setting value of coiling temperature calculated from the model conforms well to the measured value, i.e., the control accuracy of coiling temperature comes up to ±10°C. It means that the model is applicable to actual applications.
