Abstract: A comparative investigation was done experimentally for four varieties of Spirulina platensis, covering their growth conditions and hydrogen release behavior. The aim is to explore in depth the utilization of the hydrogen release from Spirulina platensis as energy resources. The result indicated that different varieties of Spirulina platensis require different optimal growth conditions and that their hydrogen releases are different greatly in both time required and quantity. A conclusion is thus drawn that the variety screening and improvement can be regarded as the mean to increase the hydrogen releasing quantity from Spirulina platensis.
