Abstract: The smooth transition of the arc line on the corner of entry of roll gap was used to deal with the first class of singular point during the simulation of common rolling, and a 2D RPFEM (rigid-plastic FEM) program was developed. The velocity field, the rolling force, the iteration steps and the convergence were computed and analyzed according to the actual rolling data. The results showed that the measured rolling force is in good agreement with the calculated value by arc line/traditional method, and the error is less than 10%. The arc line method can reflect the velocity change about singular point and restrain singularity. Compared with the traditional method, the average iteration steps reduce about 26% and the stability improves about 55%. The arc line method is in favor of reducing computation time and improving stability on line.
