Abstract: Corruption has become a governance problem that cannot be ignored in contemporary countries. By constructing a comprehensive analysis framework of corruption influencing factors based on economic, political and social factors, and using fsQCA (fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis) method to explore the influencing mechanism and combination of various factors, the research finds that economic development has different effects on corruption in different stages. The influence of marketization degree and government size on corruption has two sides, and they are closely related. Increasing the degree of democracy and the use of media at the same time can help curb corruption. The study also summarizes four types of corruption influencing mechanisms, i.e. market self-discipline, government-led, backward development and unbalanced development, which correspond to relatively clean and relatively corrupt countries respectively, and reflect the action modes of different influencing factor combinations.

Key words: corruption; economic development level; government size; marketization degree; democracy degree
