Abstract: The Beautiful Annabel Lee is an important work by Kenzaburo Oe for exploring the “late style” through the practice of “new form” novels. This “new form” is composed of such elements as the reduction method, the turn to female narratives, and the chain of meta-level structures. Based on Oe's rewriting and deconstruction of his own literature in the past, the “new form” constructs a permanent process and movement of “Kenzaburo Oe's literature”, which refuses to mature and finish. The “late style” emerging in the “new form” is not only a farewell to the past Oe's literature but also a call to the new Oe's literature.

Key words: Kenzaburo Oe; new form; late style; film novel
