Abstract: The paper use the calculating method of ring structures to analyze the internal forces of an outer-ring beam and simplifies the calculation of shell moment theory to analyze the displacements and turning corners under the actions of membrane force and fringe force. According to the condition under which the displacements at the beam can be coordinated, some formulas are given to calculate the forces and moments of outer-ring beam and their distributions on the shell of squat silo, thus providing a theoretical method for the design of such projects. The analysis indicates that the moments near the outer-ring beam are bigger and become smaller away from the beam. In comparison to the result of finite element analysis and field measurements, the calculating method proposed shows reliable precision.
