Abstract: The temperature of balk cargo graphite produced by continuous graphitizing furnace was approximately 2600°C. Experiments were limited by the high temperature. In order to study the forced cooling situation of high temperature balk cargo, the numerical simulation was conducted on the optimized cooling unit by using the software Fluent. The temperature distributions of the cooling process for graphite were obtained. The results showed that the inlet temperature of the cooling unit is very high. To protect the cooling unit, heat-resisting materials are required. The outlet temperature falls to 324?K, which is much lower than the requirement. The cooling effect is remarkable. Both of the outlet temperatures of the water in two stage cooling units meet the requirements. There are in good agreement between the simulation results and the measurements. According to the simulation results, the cooling effect is tested and the further optimization for the optimized cooling unit is guided.
