Abstract: The high cycle fatigue life of 2024 Al alloy was studied at room temperature, and the S-N curves of 2024 Al alloy were obtained under different stress states. The fracture morphology, the crack initiation/propagation mechanism, as well as the relationship between structure and fatigue performance of fatigue specimens were analyzed. The results showed that the fatigue limit decreases with increasing stress concentration coefficient, and the fatigue limit decreases with the stress ratio under the same stress concentration coefficient. The fatigue fracture of 2024 Al alloy is mainly transgranular fracture. The second phases play the role of restraining the propagation of fatigue crack, and improving obviously the high cycle fatigue strength of 2024 Al alloy.
