Abstract: The temperature control of regenerative heating furnace has a direct impact on steel qualities and energy consumption. Due to the frequent dramatic change in the gas in heating furnaces, the furnace temperature control process is characterized with multi-variable, time-varying, inherent nonlinearity, variable coupling, large inertia and dead time. For this reason, it is mainly dependent on manual operation now, a furnace temperature control system is therefore designed via double-crossing clipping PID and RBR(rule-based reasoning) so as to ensure the high stability and robustness of the system. The proposed control system has been successfully applied to some steel plants with much benefit gained, e.g., the energy-saving rate of the heating furnace is 13% with the rate of output/quality reliability assurance up to 100%.
