Abstract: High-temperature air gasification of coal was experimentally investigated in a fixed bed gasifier with ID 0.2 m. The effects of process parameters, such as the ratio of air actually supplied to that required theoretically for complete combustion in gasification process (α), the ratio of steam to carbon in coal (ns/nc) and air pre-heating temperature, on gasification performance indices to which the high-temperature air/steam is used as gasifying agent were studied. The results showed that the effects of α and ns/nc on coal gasification performance indices are realized essentially by changing the gasification temperature. The value of α and ns/nc should be controlled in the optimal range from 0.23 to 0.25 and from 0.37 to 0.45, respectively. Under the permitted technological conditions, the higher the air pre-heating temperature, the better the gasification process of coal.
