Abstract: Based on SMEs dual identity as both suppliers and buyers in supply chain, the role of SMEs in the transfer of supply chain CSR was examined. It was found that buyer type is one of the most important factors which lead to CSR requirements of SMEs and large businesses are the most demanding clients in terms of CSR requirements imposed on their SME suppliers. In contrast, supplier type does not affect SMEs in proposing CSR requirements. The strength of suppliers CSR requests and the cognition of supply chain CSR of SMEs exert a significant effect on the extent to which SMEs transfer the requests from their customers to their own suppliers.

Key words: supply chain, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), corporate social responsibility (CSR)
