Abstract: The effects of some factors, including bed voidage, particle size, bed thickness, temperature and velocity of inlet air and sinter temperature, on the average temperature of air in heat-collecting hood on circular cooler of sinters were analyzed by simulation. The curves and the corresponding functions which describe the relationship between the average temperature of air and the factors were obtained by fitting the simulation results. A semiempirical function was developed with the method of undetermined coefficients and the fitting functions. Using the semiempirical function, the temperature of air can be predicted with error less than 8% compared with the test results. The arrangement of the traditional heat collecting hood was analyzed with the semiempirical function. In order to decrease the energy loss and increase the efficiency of waste heat recovery of sinter, an optimized collecting hood arrangement was proposed.
