Abstract: A jerky measurement of the shape of hot rolled strip was done on the 6-stand 4-high hot strip mill in a certain domestic steel plant, based on an experimental scheme. Then, the values of interstand workpiece crown, rolling force, roll bending force and actual curved surface of roll profile were measured at each and all pass, in the hot strip rolling process. Introducing the simulation software based on influence function method for the elastic deformation of a 4-high mill system into computation of workpiece shape control process, the reason why the calculated average crown values of rolls are different from the relevant setup parameters are discussed and compared. It was found that the calculated and measured values of the interstand transverse thickness distribution of workpiece are in good agreement with each other.
