Abstract: The contemporary western philosophy of mind has introduced various theories, but none of the given approaches could provide satisfied answers. Based on Humphrey's diagnosis, the key to the problem is the “problem” itself. The so-called hard problem is nothing but a bad question raised by people who are based on the first person perspective. In virtue of the evolution argument of consciousness, he points out that consciousness is the specific brain state represented by the “inner eyes” in our brain as an illusory art work. Such characteristic and innovative theory of consciousness provides a new perspective for us to solve the “hard problem”, which is one of the latest forms of the developments of contemporary theories of consciousness. However, it still has some defects.

Key words: “The Hard Problem” of consciousness, Nicholas Humphrey, consciousness theories, art work
