应对人工智能的二元信任困境

Addressing the Dichotomy of Trust in Artificial Intelligence: A Perspective Based on Discretionary Power

摘要:

人工智能的广泛应用使用户对其持有矛盾的信任态度:一方面,技术进步带来的乐观期待与人工智能的拟人特征使用户倾向于信任人工智能;另一方面,缺乏时间检验所带来的不确定性与潜在风险又令用户心存疑虑。然而,已有研究多聚焦于人工智能是否具备受信资格及其可信度的评估,而较少关注委托人(用户)自身的信任态度及其实践后果。对此,引入“自由裁量权”作为分析信任关系结构的关键线索,有助于将研究视角转向用户的托付行为,从而更有效地应对信任的二元困境。因此,建议在人工智能系统设计中,通过实施基于用户信任等级的访问控制策略,持续评估用户信任水平,并提供个性化服务以尊重和响应用户对人工智能不同程度的信任态度。

Abstract:

The widespread application of artificial intelligence (AI) has engendered ambivalent trust attitudes among users. On the one hand, the optimistic expectations of technological progress and the anthropomorphic characteristics of artificial intelligence predispose users to trust AI systems; on the other hand, uncertainties arising from inadequate temporal verification and latent risks simultaneously cultivate user skepticism toward AI technologies. However, existing research has predominantly focused on assessing whether artificial intelligence possesses trustworthiness qualifications and evaluating its credibility, while paying comparatively less attention to trustors’ (users’) intrinsic trust attitudes and their practical ramifications. In this regard, introducing “discretionary power” as a key analytical lens for examining the structure of trust relationships facilitates shifting research focus toward users’ entrustment behaviors, thereby offering a more effective response to the dual predicament of trust. Accordingly, it is proposed that AI system design incorporate trust-level-based access control strategies to continuously assess users’ trust levels and provide personalized services that respect and respond to users' varying degrees of trust in artificial intelligence.
